Navi Mumbai: The civic body has roped in school children to drive home the message of waste segregation. It has started a drive called ‘Cleanliness Soldiers’, involving students from NMMC and private schools in the city. Around 2 lakh students from 460 schools are a part of the drive. “We aim to achieve 100% segregated waste. Hence, we need citizens’ interest and coordination to make it successful,” said Tushar Pawar, head of solid waste department, NMMC.
The civic body is working on a module having details about waste segregation process, which will be sent to every school. It will be taught to students with the help of demos or videos.
A group of students living in the same society, including a team leader, will be formed by teachers. The kids will be called ‘Cleanliness Soldiers’. “Regular reports will be collected about their activities,” Pawar added.
